an ode to friendship, translated through interior

With the design of Amice, Concrete has blurred the barrier between guest and staff to create an interior that feels like a ‘house for friends’.

The traditional kitchen pass has been transformed into a central chefs table, and the classic bar has made way for a tasting table. Central to the design is a 'living room cabinet' that physically connects these spaces, housing the wine room, chefs table, and tasting table, while a walk-in wine room invites 'friends' to choose their own bottle, just as they would at home. The styling in the cabinet is personalised and a reflection of the chefs. Jordy’s passion for street art and Michael’s Austrian roots, with music as the connecting factor.

An eye-catching red tiled wall, a nod to the traditional ‘potjeskachel’, forms a second connecting element in the restaurant which marks the transition between the two spaces. While fixed benches around the columns form a solid base, the rest of the furniture offers the flexibility to welcome both intimate duos and larger groups of friends. This freedom of movement and personal character transform the space from a restaurant into a living room and an unforced experience.

the story behind amice

The name Amice, Latin for friends, serves as the starting point. The chefs describe it themselves as casual fine dining: high level cooking in a warm setting where people feel at ease.

Just like at home, the kitchen is central, and the guest sees what is happening. The chefs table is therefore not just near, but actually in the kitchen.

Guests order entirely à la carte from a compact, product driven menu where ingredients always return in two different preparations. This creates a recognisable signature and gives guests the freedom to curate their own evening.

The wine room plays a central role, designed so that guests can choose a bottle themselves, with guidance from the team.

"We want guests to feel at ease immediately. You come here for genuinely good food. For refinement, pure flavours, and top quality ingredients. Just without the fuss and without it becoming uncomfortable. But life should also be celebrated at Amice, preferably with a glass of champagne."

“Concrete vertaalde het gevoel van vriendschap en thuiskomen naar een fysieke ruimte”, zegt Koopmans. “Precies zoals we het voor ogen hadden.”
