concrete designed the concept, name, interior design and total identity of arriba arriba. A restaurant which represents the sunny and colorfull feeling of Mexico influenced by the style of Luis Barragan. An iconic Mexican architect who is well known for his signature colors and elemental shapes with its associated shadows. This modern architecture is reminiscent of the traditional colors and architecture of Mexico in a contemporary way.

Approaching the building, passers-by are drawn in by the huge “arriba arriba tape font logo” on the left side wall. The neon light object “andale andale” which is the second part of the sentence of the Mexican cartoon figure Speedy Gonzales, crowns above the bar and will be noticed even in a flash by the cars and cyclists passing by.
Once inside, the building can be experienced as a typical Amsterdam space: narrow and very deep spaces fused together with different floor and ceiling levels, automatically providing a natural position for the restaurant and is divided in three spaces, each with unique colors and elements and capturing the warm sunny feeling of Mexico.

The identity of arriba arriba contains carefully selected as well as randomly picked Mexican elements in order to capture the smile that goes with eating well in a colorfull environment, with the feeling of having the sun on your head.
To give the restaurant a hectic, street art and Mexican feeling there is a tape art inspired visual language created in different color settings. Typical Mexican icons are taped in a new shape and enhance the same feeling with a matching tape font.
Specially for arriba arriba two bottles of beer were created, namely ARRIBA ARRIBA and ANDALE ANDALE. Both beers got their own Mexican inspired beer label.
