Concrete designed the interior of the Jeroen Pit House as a home, with social spaces at the heart and the technical spaces practically placed within the home-shaped interior architecture.
The design started by programmatically reshuffling the functions from the perspective of the Jeroen Pit Huis purpose: facilitating all medical equipment of a hospital in a home environment.
From there, the Concrete team placed a heart in the middle of the floor plan.

Each apartment is a private home designed around functionality and medical training. Entering the apartment, the door is a heavy ‘house’ door, giving the feeling of entering an actual home.
Key features include a patient room with large, dual sliding doors for easy bed movement and sightlines to the living room and a layout that allows caregivers to enter without disturbing the family.
Each home includes a full kitchen, a dedicated parents' suite and an upstairs bedroom for siblings, all opening onto private terraces that merge with the communal garden.

Jeroen Pit Huis welcomes its guests with a giant surprise; a life-size, yellow giraffe...
The giraffe welcomes you with his back turned up to the entrance but the moment you start looking, you figure that it is facing another direction, which makes you curious to see where it is looking and you start following it as a reflex out of curiosity... The giraffe doesn’t only work as a natural guide to the space but it’s designed to make the visitors of Jeroen Pit Huis smile and entertain the kids as well as their parents.
The giraffe is a constant eye-catcher from the moment guests enter the house and it helps form their journey around the space. The giraffe peaks around the corner of the playroom and are visible with its friendly eyes even from the living.

At Concrete, care for the Jeroen Pit Huis went all the way down to the last detail. The team styled the interior themselves, curated and hung the art wall by hand, and even painted the giraffe mural on the wall. It was work done with affection; a way of giving the social heart of the house its warmth.

The Jeroen Pit Huis is a result of the collaboration of the parties: Stichting Het Jeroen Pit Huis, Stichting VanKarnebeek4Kids, Amsterdam UMC, Stichting Steun Emma Kinderziekenhuis, Het Lindenhofje/Leger des Heils Goodwillcentra Amsterdam, and many more parties & sponsors involved in making this project come to life.
