The KLM crown lounge at Schiphol Airport is a home for global travellers, a destination on itself, a collection of characteristic spaces inspired by KLM and its Dutch background and local heritage.

the house of klm

The entrance of the lounge is a two-storey high, dutch house offering the traveller a stunning view over the runways. It contains a welcome desk which, together with four light globe pendants and light sculpture in the shape of the crown, form a giant abstraction of the KLM logo.

The house is reached by two escalators surrounded by walls made of a spectacular collection of 5000 of the famous KLM Delft blue houses (collectables).

a landscape that mimics the geography and spirit of the netherlands

The polder is a spacious seating area based on a typical Dutch landscape, with straight lines kept in natural colours of polder green. Large seating islands, the polder benches, with integrated real green divides the polder into more intimate areas to relax, work, snack and dream. A gigantic light wall forms the back wall of the Polder, simulating the everchanging Dutch sky. In front of the light wall runs ‘the street’, a sequence of trees in one line, typically found in the streets of Amsterdam, with high seating attached to each of them.

the dutch mountain

A theatrical, multi-tiered oak staircase connecting the first and second floors. This vertical landscape serves as a platform for lingering, complete with a screening valley on the reverse side, a hidden copper-grilled smoking room, and a DJ booth at its peak.

the city

the vibrant, high-density social heart of the lounge. Arranged in a radial structure of oak wood and varied terrazzo flooring, it hosts a white-marbled coffee bar, a stainless-steel fresh food market, and a cozy Dutch bruin café (brown bar) featuring a copper-clad back wall.

the sea

The most remote and relaxed area in the lounge. It celebrates the Dutch coast with custom EGE carpet tiles in deep sea-blue tones, relaxed polder benches, and chromed ball-chain curtains that offer travelers private, silent workspaces to unwind.

the sky bar

The place to celebrate, to play, to dance or to watch the horizon with the sun going up and down, a cocktail in your hand. The 15m long bar counter is backlit, which transforms every drink into a little, colourful lantern. Opposite the bar, there are elevated intimate seating niches for everyone who longs for more privacy, on the back of the bar seating boots are attached which open up towards the terrace offering an overwhelming view on the runways.
