Concrete took the client’s statement ‘It’s all right to change everything; all I need is a chest of drawers’, as its jumping-off point, because the only way to organize a pharmacy is by means of drawers for storing medications. In addition to conventional medicines, De Lairesse Pharmacy has one of the largest ranges of alternative medicines in the Netherlands.
The circular shape embraces the customer, this generates confidence and a sense of mental and physical well-being. The interior of the pharmacy uses a clear mix of materials, because Concrete took the client’s vision literally.

Inside the round space i.e. inside the cabinet the ceiling which is transparent white functions as a light fitting lit trough from above. Inside the cabinet are 72 tube lights, with a green filter. Their light bounces off, of a white back wall that reflects the light trough the transparent green drawers. Lighting in the work space is provided by 3 large uplighters (ceiling washer from Erco 33210), other lighting, also in the entrance and ‘library’ is provided by downlights (mini haloscan 20, Modular). In the entrance when the pharmacy is opened the large entrance-lightcase functions as a ‘lightwall’, when the pharmacy is closed this wall, which is suspended from ceiling rails, is rolled towards the outside wall, completely closing of the entrance.
